Framed Chalkboard for the kitchen

I made this a while ago I just haven't posted it yet and I thought I'd share it on HGTV's rate my space community along with the other items I've shared but I wanted to post it on my blog first.

I had this picture sitting in the basement that I picked up for a $1.00 at a yardsale and i realized it was attached to a thin piece of wood and I thought I could turn it over and paint with chalkboard spray paint, I already had a can from the canisters. So I did two coats of the chalkboard spray paint and I painted the frame using the antique white from behr I already had then I distressed it and applied the antique glaze over it. After two days of letting it sit I rubbed chalk all over the board to cure it and then I put it up on the kitchen wall. I like to write down whats for dinner so the kids can't ask me a million times. When I went to Joann's fabric one day I found the tea cup and thought it would be perfect to hold the chalk. I think I paid $3.99 for it.
I just love chalkboard paint, do you?

Master Bath Wall Art

Once the paint dried I realized it was dark by the tub, the sun only shines through the window in the morning and I already had some wall art I wanted to put up and decided it should all be white frames. I knew this would lighten the area up. I had these mirrors that were collecting dust in the basement and painted them white.
I also picked up picture at Homegoods and painted the frame white.
I paid $10.00 and love the colors in it

wall art all put together in master bathroom

At Homegoods I saw a "Be Calm and Carry on" framed picture and it was on clearance for $44.95! That is ridiculous I thought. So I came home searched on google images and found some that I could print myself. Then I trimmed them to fit these wood frames I bought and painted white. The frames were $5.00 and I had everything else.

The plate was 2.99 at Tjmaxx,  I love using different shapes for wall art.

Bathroom Roman shade

Here are some pictures of the roman shade in the daytime

I love the hint of sparkle

And at night
I used a Martha Stewart blue/green thin metallic ribbon and silver ribbon. I had to brush on the fabric glue with a small paintbrush, it was a little difficult i didn't have any acetone to thin the glue.

The fabric was $4.00 a yard and the ribbon was on sale. It took me about 3 hours to finish (in between picking kids up at the bus, homework and etc) it got finished at 11pm. I really like how it came out, I saw a roman shade that looked like this in Better Homes in Gardens (the new one) and got the idea from that. Next is making one for the kitchen window.

Read about my first roman shades i made here

More master bathroom updates

I wanted to share a few things I added to the bathroom, I pretty much need to finish all the small stuff and clean and I'll take pictures of everything so you can see it all.
Here is the light fixture without the shades, I cant wait till we make the frame
with shades and frog tape still
cute light pink chandelier nightlight, I picked this up for 2.50 at target (in the girls bedding section)
Love these mirrors, I saw one at Target but it cost 30 bucks! When I was looking at the bathroom stuff in Ikea I saw this for $4.99! It was easy to install and it pulls out far. I hung it low so I can sit on my stool and use it.
 it folds flat
I bought this towel bar and a robe hook at Target, the towel bar was 4.98 and the robe hook was 3.98 on clearance
These towels dont match the room to well but I liked them and I only paid 1.98 for each at Target again.....love that place

Saturday at Ikea

This morning I went out with my sister in law (future someday) and we went to Ikea, its about a hour ride or more but we just have so much fun there. She likes to take her time like I do. The best part was hitting the as is section and I picked up this for $59.00
The hemnes shoe cabinet. It retails for 99.99. There was nothing wrong with it it was just out of the box and I've been wanting this for a while! I was so excited, and the best part its already put together. I'm hoping tomorrow I can get rid of the old shoe organizer and put this in. I also got a stool and some stuff for the kitchen. I had to check out some ideas for shelving in our room, I like the billy bookcases. Next time I go I'm bringing the truck.

update- its in! Its nice not seeing the kids shoes out and zoey cant chew on them.

Chalkboard Canisters

I actually have been working on these for a while it was one of those small projects that took me forever because I am a busy mom, but I got them done, they didn't turn out completely the way I wanted them to but they do what I want them to do. I saw these ones at pier one imports
They weren't even that expensive I just wanted to do it myself because It would be more fun.

I bought these ones
Anchor Hocking 1-Gallon Heritage Hill Jar with Glass Lid
but this is from amazon and they were cheaper at walmart like 6 bucks
I had a 50% of coupon for A.C Moores and bought the spray paint for around 3 bucks and already had paint and frog tape. I had a hard time looking for the etching cream but michaels arts and crafts had and its not cheap, but I had a coupon for there as well.
here is the finished product

I wanted them to be different, I'm not sure why but I should of kept them all the same, oh well. You have to apply etching cream so the paint will stick to the jars, it gives it like a frosty look. I taped of rectangle shapes with the tape and applied the cream and you rinse it off quickly after. I messed up on that, you have to apply a lot! Then I used tape again and covered the jars with newspaper I just wrapped it around and used a lot of tape. Then I sprayed with the chalkboard paint and did about 3 coats because I'm not a good spray painter, I prefer hand painting I'm great at that. Then after a week or so I finally added detail. I did a simple boarder with white paint on one and a boarder with a design on another, a straight line with loops, not really what i was going for but oh well, and I did a stencil on the last. I finally accepted I'm not perfect and that I could always try again but I think I like how they all turned out looking different and messy. I enjoy looking at them everyday now. I'll post the chalkboard frame I made later. What do you think? Have you wanted to try a project and messed up on it and decided you liked it later?
