Monday monday

The kids are back in school, it was a nice vacation and although we didn't go anywhere I did get a lot done and feel happy about that. I like to get back in schedule with the kids. I can't believe March is almost here, we have two boys with birthdays in March and have party's to plan. I enjoy doing birthdays but now they are getting older and one doesn't really want to do anything and the other wants a bowling party. We also have to do a family party.....well I'm sure I'll figure it out but I better do it soon.

Friday I went to Ikea and bought this for the laundry room
and lights for the living room wall and a few small things

Saturday my sister Liz and I went to the local Salvation Army and she picked up a nice dresser for cheap and we went over to the fabric store and I picked up this for the window in our kitchen
I paid $4.99 a yard and if you go to calico corners its $20.99 a yard.
I really like this fabric because its bright but the beige flower print cools it down a bit. I will be starting the roman shade today.

On Thursday I went to Savers and picked up these
These will be fun to makeover, Zoey just loves checking herself out.

I also wanted to show you these I picked up a while back

I have plans for these in our master bedroom

Did any of you find anything fun over the weekend or worked on a project?

My Kitchen Stools and a pendant light

Hello to all....I wanted to share my freshly painted stools but I'll tell you why I painted them....again
A while ago I had painted my stools a red, before I painted the cabinets and made the Island counter top. I really started to dislike them and wanted to buy these stools from Ikea

ahhh the Dalfred Stool I really wanted to get these and for $39.99 a stool is a great price but unfortunately they do not sell them at the Ikea in Massachusetts. They do how ever sell them in Connecticut which is about a 2 1/2 hour drive, and I would drive there just to get them but there's nothing wrong with the stools i own for now anyway.

they were this color before

and now they are this color

In this photo they look whiter but its a aqua color called aqua smoke by behr and I really like the color It also goes with the dry sage paint on the Island.

this is a better picture of the color
These stools are beat up and I like them that way, it almost looks like a dog chewed on the leg's.

I sanded some areas on it for the red to peep through

I like the blues lately, it makes the kitchen so much brighter and its really the only room in our house to get a lot of sun

Ok on to the new pendant light in our kitchen sink area
I found a

Portfolio  Recessed Can Pendant Adaptor

It was $20 for the kit and I didn't want a glass shade that they want you to buy with it so I looked around and found a regular pendant kit for hardwired and the shade that came with it was what I was looking for and it was on clearance for $7.00! So I brought it home and I put it up all I needed to make sure the shade fit was a bigger ring to tighten the shade and a Lowes employee gave me one. I also now have the hardwired pendant kit I might use in the laundry room.

This is what it looks like

Simple crisp white shade, also it only uses a 60wtt bulb but it is enough light for over the sink.

If you have recessed lighting you could do this to

The Kitchen Table Is Done

In my past post here I wrote about painting our kitchen table. I didn't like the wood color at all and if I painted my kitchen chairs white or a lighter color I would have used a dark stain on it, but I decided it would be fun to paint it instead. Someday I'm going to build my own farmers table....someday
again here is a picture of what it looked like before
to me it looked like the color orange

and here it is finished

much lighter isn't it?

Although with the poly it became more green then without it, which I knew the poly would change the color I wish I used paste wax...ugh thanks hunny

But now looking at it I dont mind it
Do you like my new light fixture?
I used Stonington gray by BM
It came out very light on the table, almost a pale blue to it,  I painted a small area in our master bedroom and it was dark on our walls.

Zoey loves to be in the picture......if you look hard enough you can tell there's a color difference between the table top and leg.

you can still see the grain

I've been dying to use this runner....I picked this up before Christmas for $8.00 at Pier one imports, Its a little wrinkly but I can't iron it
look at all the pretty detail

It might seem like the table looks like the wall color in these photos but its not.
What do you think of my table makeover? Its really easy to clean which is great with four kids.
Would you paint a kitchen table?

The Master Bathroom

update: {other post on this bathroom}

Here is what the sink/vanity looked like before

Now

It wasn't easy getting a good picture of the light fixture
Also before we had a pink sink and we picked up the white one for free one day and bought a new facet about 2 years ago

Here is the light fixture I picked up at Lowes
See the tall cabinet in the mirror? That needs to be painted.

We dont have a door on our closet and the bin keeps our pup Zoey out

You can see more photos of my stool makeover here

I love how the color looks lighter by the sink then by the tub. You can read about my shelf makeover here.

I picked up the tray at a thrift store for $2 and the glass jar is from target. The mirror was $4.99 from Ikea and the rest of the stuff I already own.

You can read about a previous post on the small updates in the bathroom here.

Here is a before picture of the tub and shower area

you can see the side of the sailboat shelf I made over on the left

to now

You can read about my past blogs on the roman shade, the shower curtains and the wall art to see the better pictures of them.

Someday if we stay here I would love to take the tiles out the hot tub and shower to put a bigger shower and a normal sized tub with white tiles.

What do you think about the master bathroom makeover? Does the pink look less noticeable?

Shelf redo

A while ago I bought this shelf and had it up by the tub in our master bathroom. I paid $5 for it at HomeGoods and I liked the sail boats that were carved in the shelf, but with our makeover for our bathroom it wasn't going to fit in.

this is what the back side looks like, I forgot to get a picture of the front and already started the redo

I went to the local craft store and found this really thin birch wood, at $8.99 for a small sheet it was expensive but I had a coupon.
I basically took some measurements and drew marking on the sheet of wood, then cut with scissors. I started out with my nice knife set but it was easier to cut with the scissors.
Then I smoothed the edges with sandpaper. I used spray adhesive to stick the wood onto the shelf. Then I filled the edges with wood filler. I sanded and primed and painted with a white sample paint.
Then with a design I printed onto cardstock, I cut out the shaped and traced it onto the shelf, just like with my other shelf here. I used a light blue paitn again, but much lighter to trace the outline.

and here it is

no more sail boats

Its perfect to hang the hand towel, instead of putting up a towel ring

I'm not sure what I'm keeping up here for decorations yet, the candle holder seems out of place
I found all three items at Michael's arts and crafts at 40% off

The towel I picked up at Target for $1

I'm going to post pictures on the bathroom vanity later today or tomorrow, I'm done with the master bathroom, I have a few things to do in the water closet and I'll be completely done!

Check out my master bathroom makeover here
