Features & Simply Creations Link Party # 27

I'm so excited that I've been getting a-lot more done now, I'm busy working on my floor in the closet, it was a good thing we took out the rug, there was water stains in the sub-floor, that means mold can happen! Our closet also has been getting that misty mildew smell and I new there was something going on in there so we now know why.

Anyway I'm almost done with that and working on going through all the clothes that were hung and just trying to simplify things.

::: I'm also excited that I received 118 link ups and that's the most I've ever had! Thank you everyone! :::

Closet & Painted Floors

Yesterday I removed the carpet out of our master bedroom closet. It was not fun and kind of gross. So now I'm wondering what is living under all of the carpet in this house?

I grew up with a father, still to this day who hates floor to floor carpet. When we lived in a house that had no hardwood floor and wall to wall carpet he ripped all of it out. We lived with sub flooring until we moved to another house.
{ I vacuumed while pulling the carpet out, ewww }

Now I know why he never like carpet.

Bugs, dirt,dust mites, mold, and just plane yuckyness.

Because we can't afford to replace the floors, and my guy says no way to living with sub flooring, I'm going to have to deal. I'll keep reminding him about the bugs and the dust causing our sneezing.

I still have to pull out the carpet tack strips around the edge, and some of the little pieces of padding, vacuum again, and pick out some hardwood flooring.
I would like to buy cheap unfinished flooring so I can paint the floor.

A nice high-gloss blue like this would be nice, it just has to match my bathroom.

Simple gray and white stripes would make a nice statement

This is nice also, this light pink would work great to match our bathroom.

I also love the idea of a high-gloss white, and maybe painting the whole bathroom floor to match.

As of now my bathroom is a mess, all my clothes are in a pile, I have a pile for donation, other items that dont need to be in a closet and trash.

This is before I started taking stuff out

I still have a lot more to do, there is shelving up top that needs organizing, there is also shelving along the right side and i need to go through that.

This is the only lighting we have in the closet, I bought the schoolhouse globe over the weekend to replace it.
See all the stuff up top? I'm not a hoarder I swear, this room is just been neglected, mainly because it got so bad over the summer, we've had lots of rain and humility and because one of the closet wall in a exterior wall it can become mildewy.

I finally talked my guy into putting a window in the closet, it really needs it.

What are you working on?

I Love Purdy

A while ago I was online and went over to Purdy's Save the walls site and saw they had a share your story form and decided I would write why I love and only use Purdy brushes and the next thing I have a e-mail from they saying I won $25 gift card to a store of my choosing from a list. I wasn't sure to believe it or not until I went back to the site and saw a daily win logo and clicked on it, and saw my name on it.

After a few weeks I received my e-gift card and printed out and went to Home Depot, that's were I decided I wanted to use it at.

  { similar to this one }

Of course I bought a new brush, I know I just bought some a few months ago but this time I needed a new brush for cutting in when I get back to painting around the house.

I also picked up a new brush comb

and this to update our closet lighting

I believe they are still doing this daily win, all you need to do is click on this link http://youcansavethewalls.com/ and enter "share your story" and you might win!

[ note: this post was all by me and not Purdy, I'm just excited to share that I won the gift card from them and wanted to share about there contest ]

Business Cards and Letterheads

When I did that giveaway from UPrinting.com I was lucky enough to get some letterheads myself just for doing the giveaway.

I was able to design my letterheads, add my logo and this is what I made.

Its nice to have personal paper to give out notes with my orders or use them for my studio work.

Before I even finished my giveaway I was checking out there site and found that they do business cards for a great affordable price, so I design some.

{ sorry for the fuzzy, dark photos }

I did double sided printing and basic shape and it cost me about $35 for 500 cards.
So if your looking for buying great quality cards check out UPrinting.com

Features & Simply Creations Link Party # 26

I've actually been keeping myself super buys this week.

I did a dresser makeover using Mod Podge & paper, if you haven't seen it yet you can here.

I'm tackling the worst room ever in my house......our master bedroom closet....its so bad.

I'm also working on new items for my Etsy shop.

I've also realized October 16th 2010 was the first day I posted a post on my blog, so that means my 1 year blog-anniversary is coming up.

I'm excited about that because I'll be having a giveaway around that time, I'll tell you it has to do with gift giving ideas, perfect for the holidays.

Okay so here are the features, and I will also be doing separate feature post on Halloween and fall decorations and projects.

This is why I wanted to cover my new dresser with paper, Swoon Worthy did this and it looks like a million bucks!

Isn't this playroom amazing by Libbie Grove Design? I wish this was in my house. I'd probably hang out in there more then the kids.

The Decorologist always does amazing decorating. The top photo is her living room now but was her dining room, she did a room switch and her living room is now the dining room.

Crafting in the Rain gave this dresser and new look and cute stenciling job on the top!

This french toast with pumpkin butter maple syrup by A Mom Not A Professional, looks so yummy!

I adore this board and batten and awesome stenciling in this entry way by Krista Artista.

Mod Podge + Pretty Paper = A Cute Dresser

I'm defiantly huge fan of Mod Podge.
It can do so much and Its simple to use and easy clean up.

My new friend is leaving to go to school in England and she gave me this dresser.

I love the small drawers.

{ Now with the Mod Podge and cute paper }

I wish I never drop my camera, this is why its fussy on the edge.

{ Lets take a closer look at the paper }

All of the paper was 12 by 12 sheets that came from a collection of vintage looking designs. I bought the book at the craft store on clearance for $4.98. This made it easy to pick out the patterns and designs I liked and new they would all match perfectly.

{ The hardware }

The knobs are defiantly not my style

so I added these

I wanted to give the dresser a vintage and modern look so I use modern knobs. These a very affordable knobs from Ikea, they come in a variety of colors and you get 6 for $1.99.
They are made of plastic but they dont feel cheap, they are heavy duty and look as if they were made from glass.

{ The top }

With the leftover scraps I wanted to add them to the top. I put it together like a wood floor boards.
I'm still adding applying the Mod Podge, you need a-lot of layers for the top.

Its not a great idea to drop your new camera more then once....

{ How I did this Mod Podge Dresser }

  1. Pick your paper, I did all different designs. This paper is heavy duty and has texture in it.
  2. get out your craft scissors and a pencil
  3. look at your drawer before its covered, and hope to never see it again
  4. remove hardware
  5. clean the drawer fronts, dry and have a snack
  6. get your brush and Mod Podge ready something flat to help with wrinkling paper
  7. place the paper upside down and place the drawer front on top. Using your pencil trace around the drawer.
  8. cut out paper
  9. apply the podge
  10. attach paper

When dry brush on thin layers of Mod Podge letting coats dry in between. I applied about 5 coats.

I let it sit overnight and to make the holes for the hardware I press my finger to find the hole over the paper and use my craft knife to make the hole.

and that's it.

This will be going into my closet, I know why do I want to hide it, well I think it will be perfect for my socks and what not, and I only want one dresser in our bedroom.

I will be showing it in my closet, when my closet gets its mini makeover. Working on cleaning it out now.

I will be sharing this dresser at many parties, you can see all of them at my party page at the top.
