A Slipcover For A Little Ottoman & A Frame

I actually made this slipcover before Christmas. Its simple, no piping just a quick makeover to hide the blahness of the brown colored ottoman.

Zoe likes to get in the photography shoots...even though its hard to see her eyes

It's snowing here today so I couldn't get great photos and I also didn't have the time to stage.

This ottoman is nothing special, came from Target a few years ago and I believe my mother bought it for $6.
The top even comes off for storage but I dont actually store anything inside. Otherwise I would probably just have reupholster it instead.
I didn't even cut all the excess threads.
I didn't even iron the fabric. Did I mention I dont have an ironing board? It broke and I have picked up a new one yet.

I worked all morning and afternoon on painting and orders.
I also started painting this

This had a glass shelf in the middle and a mirror on the back but they were broken so I'm going to turn it into something else.

I gave it one coat today.

When its complete I will share.

I'm actually enjoying this snowy day
and
tonight is the one night during the week I watch tv . I love comedy night on abc and I stay up to watch Revenge.

Do you have a favorite tv show at night?

D.I.Y Metal Cage Flush Mount Light

Over the weekend we spend most of the time organizing the basement and moving in all the new goodies I've been collecting.
I also finished updating my flush mount lights in the mudroom. If you read my post here about the metal cage lights you will see what inspired me.

I love the industrial look and we needed to update the light fixtures but I really didn't want to spend a lot of money or buy just any flush mount fixture. So I had an idea in my mind and searched the internet for metal baskets that had to be the right size I needed.

I found these small baskets from the Container Store.

outdated light fixture

First I took down the glass shades on the light fixtures and sanded and cleaned the light mounts.

I mixed black and gray and silver metallic paint together to get a metal look. I used a small artist brush and a foam pouncer. Painting on metal can be difficult, I wasn't about to take the lights down and spray paint so using the foam pouncer works better then brushing but I used the brush to cut in the edges.

This is how it looked after the first coat of paint, without using the foam pouncer.
It took two coats of paint and a few touch ups to get the matching look.

Now to attach it, because there are already holes for the screws to attach the globe I found longer screws and painted them the same color to match and it worked great. This way the basket comes off easily to change the bulb or to clean the dust.

and that's it! Easy and cheap. The baskets were $9.99 plus tax and I had everything else on hand.

without light on

with light on. I actually bought those vintage light bulbs from Home Depot like I said in the previous post but they were to big and they got hot fast. I actually dont mind the light bulbs I'm using now. More energy efficient.

now I need to order two more baskets to update the other lights in the nearby hall.

I'm really glad this worked out. My other option was to get schoolhouse globes but I would of had to change out the hole light fixture to get a small base. These were 6 inch and they only make the globes for 4 inch at my hardware store.
I'm glad I went with my idea.
Plus each it only cost me $9.99 plus tax to update each light!
I will be sharing this at link parties, check out my page here to see which ones.

Features & Simply Creations Link Party # 46

Welcome to my link party!

before I share the features and start the party I just wanted to share a few things

I'm so sorry to my readers that I haven't shared any makeovers or projects, but I'm almost complete with the big custom painting job and working on a diy light fixture that I will share as soon as its complete.

With the Sowa Open Market coming up in May I will be busy painting lots of furniture, little decor and will be sharing everything.

I'm also hoping to sneak in a room makeover as well.

and here are a few more goodies I recently received

Some metal bar stools, I really like the two matching ones. They need new seats but I like the rusty color on the base.

this is what I'm really excited about. I've been researching, watching videos, getting books out from the library on upholstering for a long time now and all I needed was to find the chairs to start.
Well I found the chairs, actually they came to me! They are old, the woodwork is beautifully done, made in the USA and free!

I will defiantly share my first time upholstering with all of you

now enough of me and on to the features

Its a must you see the before photos on this beautiful kitchen done by The Decorologist for clients.

Liz Marie always amazes me with her work, I just love the crisp white chairs against the wood.

Did I ever mention my favorite candies are Rolos, The Sasse Life made these Rolo cupcakes that I will be defiantly be making.

VanHook & Co made over this industrial stool that used to be multi colored.

Lovely wedding gift made by Diy Kinda girl....I'd prefer handmade gifts over store bought anyday.

and last but defiantly not least is a beautifully and fun spring decorated mantel by The Delectable Home

many thank yous to all how share your projects and more I appreciate you taking the time to link up

Metal Cage Light fixtures and I'm Going To Make One

I just love the metal light fixtures I see on blogs, Pinterest and fancy stores online.

like these ones

some of them are bought or someone made them, like these last two photos had me looking for wire baskets online. I found this one from the Container Store.

Perfect look and a great price at $9.99 a basket. This one is also the right size I need. & in square and 5 in height.

So I dragged the kids out and we went to the store and to make it more exciting for the kids I took them into the mall to have lunch.

My plan is to make a these into a shade for our ugly lights in the mudroom. I will show more when I complete it, I need to make sure this works and so far its looking good.

Home Depot have these old fashion light bulbs that will go perfectly with the look I'm going for.

I have pinned all of these photos to my lighting board on my Pinterest, feel free to follow me!

It feels good to work on a little project for the mudroom, since its makeover got delayed.

A Little Organization and Art

Sunday was my fun day. I needed a day out to do what I wanted with out the kids and just get out. Since I've been painting and busy with other things I haven't been able to go anywhere and I've been wanting to go to Ikea for a while now.

I actually didn't buy much. A few storage bins for the closet to hold my crafts and a pillow for one of the boys and I only bought one item in the as is section which is this

This is the Soder wall lamp and I found it for $8. I guess its normally $29.99. I have the perfect place for it also, my closet. My guy needs to put in outlet in there so I have to wait to get it up.

The rest of the day I spent cleaning the house. I finally hung the art I had to put in our bathroom.

I painted the frames a long time ago, they happen to match the color on the back of my shelf I painted. You can read that old post here.

I hung this trash can from Ikea on the inside of the door under our master bathroom sink.

I organized my drawers

I even cleaned out my make drawer and threw away old make-up.

It feels good to be organized. Now I just need to do this to the rest of the house.

I also wanted to share some fabric I picked up on Friday at this discounted fabric store near me that sells amazing cheap fabric. This is the place I bought the fabric for my fabric rug.

I found this yellow and gray wide fabric, It cost $5.99 a yard. I have plans for this.

This fabric was in the remnants section for $2.49 a yard. This is also wide fabric and I dont have plans for it yet but loved the orange and blue. The fabric looks better then in this photo.

What did you do over the weekend? Are you kids home from school for the week?
