Here he is finally finished. He was a bit of a pain to work with but I'm glad I did. This is my first secretary desk I've ever painted. I love these for keeping mail in an entry way and now a days you can store and charge your laptops and tablets in them also.
I painted him in a dark gray....called "gray" also known as 2121-10 by Benjamin Moore.
The prep work involved filling holes, sanding & priming two coats. I rolled on the three coats of the paint.
Here is the inside. This was the most work. The mail sorter was already half off so I took it out for easier painting. It took a good few coats and very good lighting. My handy guy nailed and glued it back into place.
I found this fun shelf lining paper at Marshall's and it was very easy to put it. I thought about gluing it down since its not super sticky but then it wouldn't be fun for the future owner to remove it if they wanted to.
It was in the 70's and I was wearing my beat up boots. I'm not ready yet for warmer weather.
I used a mini roller for most of the job. It gives it a nice smooth look.
I bought these knobs online from Hobby Lobby before Christmas knowing I'd use them for the desk. They are a nice shade of green and add a pop of color to the dark desk.
my stag head is helping me hold the paper bunting.
I also want to mention my feather art, I freehand painted on the feathers except for three which were stamped on.
and lastly the before photo
dark, dirty and mail sorter falling out. I did find some interesting letters from the late 70's inside...and a quarter!
I will be sharing my gray desk at many link parties, check out my page dedicated to those link parties here.
