We recently had some cool days. Which is a very good thing considering last summer we had so many humid days and this summer has been quite amazing. So since the kids are home on vacation I'm taking a vacation and doing projects around the house I've wanting to do. All year long i'm working on pieces an handmade goods for my shop and etsy so its nice to get a few things done of my list.
I have been wanting to paint the kitchen island for over a year now. When I first painted it in dry sage by Benjamin Moore I liked the color but then I started bringing in other colors that didn't seem to go with the green. This was a quick project for a more neutral change.
These bar stools have a interesting story behind them. Well to me anyway. One of them was found on the side of the road for free and I liked it but didn't have two so it sat in the garage. Then a week later the other one was out on the side of the road. Found at the same house, but very thankful because they work for now and they were free.
Here is a before of the island.
this is also a before. When we had the chalkboard fridge. Which I loved very much and last summer on a hot humid day he went to appliance heaven.
You can see how the warmth tone is now only coming from the wood top. I really love how it stands out. I hope anyone who comes over looks directly at the island and not the pink tile countertop that is in very bad shape. We are thinking of diy concrete countertops soon. The floor also needs to be redone. We have a few areas of cracked and coming out of the floor tiles.
I used Covington Gray by Benjamin Moore on the island.
Over the winter I organized the island. Got rid of older pots and pans and went with less stuff. I even added hooks underneath and to the sides to hang smaller pots and pans. Its much easier to find what I ned.
As far as the rest of the kitchen...and the tile needing to be gone I want to re paint the bottom cabinets. We do eventually need a new oven, microwave and a dishwasher. We will most likely go with all stainless to match the fridge. I even want to do a white subway tile backsplash with a gray grout color.
The rug in the dining room needs to move out also. I have a major hate issue with wall to wall carpeting.
The hardest part is not knowing if were going to stay here forever so do we do all the work that needs to be done? This is why I try to keep the projects affordable. I honestly want a older home to fix up someday.
I hope you enjoyed my kitchen island makeover and a description of the kitchen.
