Sitting Room & IKEA's STOCKSUND Sofa Review

sitting-room-1.jpg

I wanted to share a little review on IKEA’s STOCKSUND sofa today.

I do not think they have this dark gray fabric cover anymore but a lighter version and some other designs.

We bought this sofa before Weston was born. In February 2018. We have had it for over a year now and we really like it. It is deep and comfortable and I like how you can remove the covers.

We had a smaller sofa here before and we are always in here so we went for a larger sofa and this one fit well in this space.

I did finally take the wall art off. I’m not sure if I will put it back up or do something different.

Although I do not wash the covers often. it is a lot of work. I prefer to keep a blanket on top and vacuum the cushions and under them about once or twice a month. Sometime I just wash the bottom cushion covers. They take a long time to dry and they need to air dry.

My husband put the sofa together and it did not take him long at all.

The rug was purchased from Target online. I do regret buying it. It does not look like this anymore and you can not see the design at all and it looks matted down. The IKEA rugs I have held up better. Eventually I will be buying something better. You can find the rug here.

Here it is all put together for the first time. Harper was excited to test it out.

We ended up taking the tall shelf out and replacing it with a smaller, shorter one. The TV is now on the wall also.

Here is real life after having a baby. It is much cleaner now minus the toys and books everywhere and we did get a ceiling fan for this space. You can see that post here.

We are very happy with this sofa. If you are on a tight budget and need a good sized comfortable sofa this is a great one. It is also nice to take naps on.

I will share another post on some updates on this space and about our new floors soon. I still need to finish the gallery wall by the TV and the area above the sofa.

Thank you for reading!

New Ceiling Fans And House Plant

whitefan.jpeg

Over memorial day weekend the hubby put up a new ceiling fan in our kitchen/sitting area and one in Harper and Westons room.

We do not have air conditioning in this house, we can not install them in the windows and central air is so pricey. Ceiling fans are great at keeping the area cool and move air around. They used to always be so ugly to me but now a days they have a variety of styles.

This white one was only $89 on sale at Home Depot. You can find it here but unfortunately it is not onsale right now.

This is the light we had. We used to have a kitchen table in here and never replaced the light when we decided to turn this into a family room. I still need to move my wall decor over since buying the sofa.

If your interested the sofa is from IKEA and we love it. I plan to share some of my favorite IKEA finds soon.

I liked this fan because of the style of the light it came with. Its very bright as well. The best part is its very quiet and we can sill hear the tv when it is on.

I chose this fan for the kids room. I thought it had a vintage vibe and I liked the matte black. Its bright enough for the space and a tiny bit noisy but I think that helps them sleep better even though we have a sound machine.

I bought this one for only $39! onsale the week before memorial day. This one is a flush mount style and hugs the ceiling wall. You can find it here.

Lastly I wanted to share newest hanging plant. I found this at Trader Joes for $10.99 a few weeks ago. I ordered a three pack of macrame plant hangers from Amazon and put this one in the biggest one. I hope I can keep him alive but I think i need to hang it lower or remove the blinds.

I also wanted to mention that I’m trying to post more and but I have been super busy these past few weeks and June is full of more activities. Stay tuned and thank you for reading.

My House Plants

Peace Lily

Peace Lily

Could you believe I never had any house plants until a few years ago I started collecting succulents.

Then I found a pothos hanging plant at my local grocery store in the clearance area. He needed love and was only $4.

After that I decided I had to have more.

I Recently picked up some new plants that can handle low light. We have a lot of trees and we do not get a lot of direct sunlight.

I did research on which plants are good for low light and the Home Depot has a lot to pick from. Not my first choice to buy plants but we were there for a kid workshop and I saw the plants for $3.98.

pearlpothos-jade

This one is the pearl jade pothos. I picked up two of these. I like the color on this one. It has grown already from getting it about a week ago.

Pothos do well in indirect light and low light. Also letting the soil dry out before watering. I overwatered my $4 grocery store one at first and realized that when the leaves were turning yellow.

Here is when Harper and I put them into pots and a week later.

I love the dark leaves on this peace lily. They thrive in low light but should not be near cold, drafty areas like windows. I found this website that explains about caring for these here. They are toxic for pets so if you have cats you should not get one of these and keep away from dogs.

Nasa ranked these in the top ten of air cleaning plants.

crispy wave

I thought this plant was pretty interesting, it is called the crispy wave. It is also great for detoxifying the air. It came with the pot and was $8. I have it in Harper and Weston’s room. Likes indirect light and soil to be moist.

This succulent is also new and I keep my succulents in the kitchen because we get a lot of sunlight in here.

And last these are the plants I’ve had for a while now and they are still alive except for the rosemary. I can never keep them alive.

I want to get some snake plants next. I’m having a hard time finding them and they are very god for cleaning the air in the house and says to take care of. I also would love some larger plants but not sure what I can do with our low light.

I plan to try making eggshell tea for natural fertilizer for my plants. Has anyone tried this?
