New Work Space With A Built In Desk

builtindesk-1

I am excited to share my new work/craft space! My space was down in the basement and although I had a huge room to myself and lots of storage I decided it would be better to have a space up here on the main floor. This way I can get work done ( sometimes ) while Harper and Weston are close by playing with there toys or watching a movie.

It’s not ideal for some to have this in the living room but it works for us. It could all be easily taken apart if we ever need to.

The desk top is my favorite part of this space. It was actually a nice kitchen table made in england. My hubby cut it down to size to fit and mounted it to the wall and to the cabinet. It was nice to use it for something since it was collecting dust in the basement.

I used daddy vans natural beeswax to coat the top for protection. I did not stain it.

The couch and shelf behind the sofa are a bit in the way for a picture.

The cabinet is a computer cabinet that we got for free years ago.

To the right you can see the kid craft area. Basically Harpers area to make a mess. I will share more about that area and the inside of the and before and after of the cabinet in another post.

before-office

Here is a before of the area…how cute is Weston playing with the airplane? We had the play kitchen in this corner when the Christmas tree was up but other then that I never had anything permeant in the space.

The most expensive item I bought for my workspace was the chair. I think I paid $90 for it on sale at our local Staples. I liked the color and I normally do not care for computer/office chairs but I did not mind this this one. I like that you can adjust for height and its pretty comfortable for working long periods of time.

The shelving is from Home Depot, the gold metal shelf to the right I found a year ago at Michales. The desk lamp was a freebie and I’m not sure were the scissor hanger is from. The wall organizer under the shelf was from Ikea ( they don’t carry this one anymore unfortunately ) but the white plastic bins they do have. The cart underneath is another Ikea find and I do not have anything in it yet because of Weston.

I have so much craft, sewing…etc stuff that I have not organized let. So far I am only keeping the items I use the most up here and still have to go through so much. I’m trying to keep everything neat and went with white bins to store items.

This wood organizer was a free find from maybe 4 years ago and I painted it in chalkboard paint. They have something similar at Ikea.

I need to get another square bin to put up top and I bought those at Target. They are also my favorite for storing toys because they are easy to clean. The other bins are from Ikea.

I am happy to blog more now and to start my etsy shop back up with new adventures. Although this new work area is not perfect or completely organized its my personal space for me.

Thank you for seeing my new space and stay tuned for the inside of the cabinet and the kid craft area.

My House Plants

Peace Lily

Peace Lily

Could you believe I never had any house plants until a few years ago I started collecting succulents.

Then I found a pothos hanging plant at my local grocery store in the clearance area. He needed love and was only $4.

After that I decided I had to have more.

pothos-1

I Recently picked up some new plants that can handle low light. We have a lot of trees and we do not get a lot of direct sunlight.

I did research on which plants are good for low light and the Home Depot has a lot to pick from. Not my first choice to buy plants but we were there for a kid workshop and I saw the plants for $3.98.

pearlpothos-jade

This one is the pearl jade pothos. I picked up two of these. I like the color on this one. It has grown already from getting it about a week ago.

Pothos do well in indirect light and low light. Also letting the soil dry out before watering. I overwatered my $4 grocery store one at first and realized that when the leaves were turning yellow.

Here is when Harper and I put them into pots and a week later.

I love the dark leaves on this peace lily. They thrive in low light but should not be near cold, drafty areas like windows. I found this website that explains about caring for these here. They are toxic for pets so if you have cats you should not get one of these and keep away from dogs.

Nasa ranked these in the top ten of air cleaning plants.

crispy wave

I thought this plant was pretty interesting, it is called the crispy wave. It is also great for detoxifying the air. It came with the pot and was $8. I have it in Harper and Weston’s room. Likes indirect light and soil to be moist.

This succulent is also new and I keep my succulents in the kitchen because we get a lot of sunlight in here.

And last these are the plants I’ve had for a while now and they are still alive except for the rosemary. I can never keep them alive.

I want to get some snake plants next. I’m having a hard time finding them and they are very god for cleaning the air in the house and says to take care of. I also would love some larger plants but not sure what I can do with our low light.

I plan to try making eggshell tea for natural fertilizer for my plants. Has anyone tried this?

Thank you for reading my post. You can add your email to my list and be notified when new posts go live. Also find me on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest on the sidebar.

Easter Basket Ideas

Easter is on April 21st this year and I am sharing some ideas on what to put in those baskets that I have used or similar to them . For babies, Toddler/preschooler and teens.

The photo collage above are items I chose with Harper in mind. Last year she received everything from the top minus the baby shark ( Weston received for his birthday ) and the pretend make up and caboodle case is for this year.

Almost everything was purchased from Amazon. The easter matching eggs are still a hit along with the books and dvd. The baby shark is Weston’s favorite and it sings part of the song and have a replaceable battery plus It is small and perfect for a basket.

Peppa pig is also a huge favorite around here and anything arts and crafts.

Last year I found this bunny basket at Tjmaxx for Harper. Tjmaxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods are great to find cute baskets. Other great gifts are surprise bags or eggs filled with small toys and candy. Harper is obsessed with surprise bags. Along with chocolate bunnies and candy I like to mix in fruit snacks and snacks like goldfish.

Some years the kids would get a sand bucket filled with goodies. The oldest one year had a hat. The easter bunny plans on using this basket again this year and buckets for the older kids.

Weston was only a few weeks old last easter but he still got a easter basket. I used a soft basket and filled it with finger puppets, wubbanub, rattles and teething toys.

This year he has a panda basket I found at AC.Moores but can not find it online. He will get beach items, like pails and towels and a few small toys with toddler safe snacks.

I like soft books for babies and the bunny and carrot teether are adorable and useful, the wubbanub is great idea if you use them. I also think a soft basket is a good choice and can be used for storage after.

My older boys had these drawstring bags filled with candy, chocolate, toys, money, flip flops ( great teen idea ) and those little debbie easter cakes. Even though they are older they still like water guns and bubbles but they love getting candy and snacks.

They all got huge water bottles which they used for baseball and summer because they drink a lot of water.

If you have kids in spring sports like mine baseball batting gloves, socks and balls are always a good idea.

For our furry family member Zoey, she always gets a toy and some treats.

I have to admit I still have a few more items to get but I’m thankful Easter is at the end of the month this year. With all the birthdays we have in March it gets busy around here.

You can read about Weston’s wild one party here.

You can visit my easter idea page on Amazon here to see all the items listed available on amazon.

I will also be sharing the kids baskets this year on easter via my instagram.

For the month of April I plan on sharing my new workspace, the chalkboard hall I painted in November, some decor updates and Weston’s first year and favorite baby items.
