New Curtains in the breakfast nook

I put them up this morning. Its raining again...so please excuse the dark photos.
I put the hardware up yesterday for the rods which made it easier.

Before curtains

You can read about these curtains and where I bought them on a previous post here.

These are the original curtain rods my mother gave me a long time ago. They were not long enough and I wanted to be able to have the curtains pulled to the sides and not cover the window when I want light to come through.

To the right are the 1 1/8 inch dowels I bought at the depot, they were 8 inches longer so they were perfect.

To paint them white I brought them down to my workshop and put screws in a scrap piece of wood. Then put holes in the ends of the dowels which they need them anyway for the finials.
Then I place the dowels on the screws to make painting easier.
Once they were dried overnight I used Minwax finishing polish on them for a protective layer and help the curtains slide easier.

After staring at my curtains for a bit I realized the rod to the left wasn't straight, so I just fixed it now.

I made the curtains to just barely hit the floor, as the kitchen being the dirtiest place in the house and thank goodness that these curtains can be washed in the washing machine.
All I did was cut the tabs off and folded over the fabric and sewed.

Now I'm working on painting the 4 new chairs and my plans for the new table top.

Here is my hutch with my new metal Y letter I bought from Restoration Outlet for $1.49, on top of the hutch is a wire utensil and napkin holder that I will use for parties.

Hope you enjoyed my new curtains!

The Kitchen Table Is Done

In my past post here I wrote about painting our kitchen table. I didn't like the wood color at all and if I painted my kitchen chairs white or a lighter color I would have used a dark stain on it, but I decided it would be fun to paint it instead. Someday I'm going to build my own farmers table....someday
again here is a picture of what it looked like before
to me it looked like the color orange

and here it is finished

much lighter isn't it?

Although with the poly it became more green then without it, which I knew the poly would change the color I wish I used paste wax...ugh thanks hunny

But now looking at it I dont mind it
Do you like my new light fixture?
I used Stonington gray by BM
It came out very light on the table, almost a pale blue to it,  I painted a small area in our master bedroom and it was dark on our walls.

Zoey loves to be in the picture......if you look hard enough you can tell there's a color difference between the table top and leg.

you can still see the grain

I've been dying to use this runner....I picked this up before Christmas for $8.00 at Pier one imports, Its a little wrinkly but I can't iron it
look at all the pretty detail

It might seem like the table looks like the wall color in these photos but its not.
What do you think of my table makeover? Its really easy to clean which is great with four kids.
Would you paint a kitchen table?

I'm painting the kitchen table

I just finished my second coat of polly on the table about a hour ago. I wish I didn't need it , because it already has a yellow tint to it but its what my man brought me.

The color I went with is Stonington gray by Benjamin Moore.

I thought it would be darker, but it actually looks like a pale blue, I guess will see how it turns out so here is some pictures of it so far
Plus with added yellowness

I wish I didn't paint the chairs black, I would of just stained the table a darker hue, it was so easy to sand the table with the power sander of course.
One of these days I'd love to have a plank farmers table.

It looks lighter in these pictures

I love wood grain

The lighter color does make the kitchen lighter, also I already painted one stool in a aqua smoke by behr, will see how it goes in the kitchen, otherwise I might have to repaint the island. The red just wasn't doing it for me anymore, and that's why I love paint!

The table should be done in a few more days, I will post it when complete

The Kitchen Chairs.....almost done

This is a older picture of the kitchen with the chairs. I only kept 2 of the them for the end.
This is what the side chairs are that I picked up at a yard sale. They were 4 for 10.00

The paint I had is ebony in BM
The 2 end chairs are finished I'm working on the polly for the side chairs......I can only paint 2 at a time since I dont have enough spare chairs. I'll get them all done soon.
