Tags and More

 I made some pinwheels today!
I'm working on a tutorial and will share these another time.....

We had a sunny day so I took some photos of some tags I've finished a week ago.

small painted wood number tags
great for organization

large wood tags painted in gray and turquoise
stained wood on the back

chalkboard tags

driftwood stained large tags with bright green painted numbers

 clay welcome tags

this is a vintage porcelain enamel bucket I found

Most of the items will be at the Sowa and the wood and clay tags will be up on my Etsy shop soon.

I did more crafting today then painting.....today was a great day until I took one of the boys to baseball practice and my car was being odd. It was moving over the left and doing other weird things so I pulled over and looked around the car.
This is what I found

See all the corrosion? See how the metal isn't even attached together anymore? Yeah it got so rusted it broke.
My jeep liberty was born in 2005 and has 88,000 miles on it. This is not typical for a jeep that age and less miles.
Even the tow truck driver couldn't believe what he saw.
Anyhow I found out there is a recall on this so I'm feeling better about it now.
This could of been worse....like the whole bottom of my jeep falling out.....scary accidents.

Tomorrow is all about baseball so I wont be crafting or painting........and driving
Have a great weekend!

Pom Pom Flowers

I've been seeing allot of these pom pom flowers around lately.

I think they are just so cute and I had to make some for myself.

I went to Michaels and picked up a few different colors of yarn. They had this brand called "Sugar and Cream" and they were 4 for $5.

I found a few tutorials on Pinterest. I tried both, one using wire and the other using a piece of yarn to mold the flower. They both worked well.

These are the tutorials I used

I only had the green floral wire on hand so I decided to paint the skewers and use those for the stems. I also forgot to look for paper wrapped wire when I was getting the yarn.
I often forget things at the store

These are also simple to make

Hall Lamps Makeover Part 2 { Completed Lamps }

With updated fabric lampshades and a fresh coat of gray satin paint I gave these lamps a makeover.

This is what the lamp looked like before

{for some reason I could only find a old Halloween photo of them }

The lamps I bought a year and half ago for $7.58 a piece at Target, a great price because they were $30 originally. The lampshades were what I had to use at the moment, not my favorite.
I liked the dark wood weave look but because they are on my harvest table and I'm pretty sure I wont ever paint it so I wanted the lamps to be a little bit brighter then the table.

For the tutorial on the fabric lampshades you can find that here.

I used a gray by Martha Stewart's new paint collection by Plaid.
Gray Wolf MS Satin

I also used her new foam pouncer set on the lamps, instead of using a brush or spray paint this was easy and did a great job. These were defiantly worth the $5, they also wash easily.
I actually picked up a stencil as well, I used coupons for everything.

I'm defiantly happy with the outcome, it took me about 20 minuets to paint the lamps and an hour to redo the lampshades.

Basically these lamps and shades cost me about $16.50 each, that's including the lamp, shade, fabric, trim, paint.

Do you have a lamp you want to give a makeover to?

Hall Lamps Makeover Part 1 { Fabric Lampshade Tutorial }

On Friday I gave these lampshades a makeover

I new when I bought them I'd redo them, I'm not much of a purple fan. They were only $4.98 each.

To make these I picked up quilting fabric at Joann Fabric, it was $4.99 a yard and on sale for 25% off a yard. I bought 2 yards, but have plenty left.

1. I used fabric, fabric scissors, glue and trim. I also used chalk and pins to hold the fabric in place while drying.

2. I pulled the purple trim off, measured my lampshade and marked it on the fabric. I cut two strips out at once so I wouldn't have to do it again.

3.  I rolled the fabric around the shade and made sure it fit nicely. Then I started applying glue on the top and bottom and did up and down stroked on the shade to make sure the fabric wouldn't be loose anywhere.

4. For the seam I made sure it would start and end at the seam on the shade and trim off excess fabric and folded the fabric over and glued and pin it.

5. Once dried, I trimmed of the excess fabric on the top and bottom and I basically just hold the shade in the middle and turn it around while trimming, you want to make sure once to add the trim no fabric is showing through the top or bottom.

6.  Now add the trim, I picked up cotton 1/2 inch twill, I like how it was soft you can see almost a chevron design in it.

I just glued the trim on and made sure it was on the edge and pin in place. Then I did the bottom trim.

And that's it.

 much better then before.

I painted the lamps also on my harvest table in the hall, that's what these shades are for, I will post part 2 another time.

Updated Lamp For The Mudroom

Yesterday when I posted photos of the cute small office ideas I noticed how everyone had lamps and I always love a lamp but never thought to have one in the mudroom.

I have a wall light near the computer so I didn't need one there.

I had a small wood lamp base in the basement that I was using for extra light and decided it would be perfect for the sitting on the shoe cabinet from Ikea and not be to big.

This is what the lamp base looked like before
It actually had a truck lampshade and it was in my sons room. I dont think he will mind, he will get a new one.

I picked up the lampshade at Target for around $7, which is a lot for a small shade but the shape was perfect for the top of the shoe cabinet which is not very wide.

It also needed some cuteness, so I added faux bois ribbon that I picked up at the craft store for .98 cents a while ago.

It looks great with the light on.

I painted the base with a Martha Stewart light blue oops paint in satin.

Although it doesn't look like it gives of good light in the photos, but it does and for a 40watt bulb it seems brighter then the ceiling lights.

My guy asked why I put a lamp in the mudroom, I showed him some photos to prove it happens.

For Your Information

When I picked up some letters from Restoration Hardware outlet for $1.49 a piece I was really excited I just grab a few letters I liked, there wasn't much left.

I ended up buying W T F Y I, I didn't even realize I had F Y I.

This is what the letters looked like when I bought them
They were from the baby/kids section

I placed them above my newly made over bulletin board

My technique for these were kept simple, I primed, painted with my favorite blue (now called my obsession blue because it has no name) mixed my Ralph Lauren metallic glaze with some gray paint and painted over the letters, then wipe it off, then I added my antique glaze and rubbed all over. This way they have a worn out look and the blue inst to bright.

I gave the W a makeover for the laundry room

For this letter I mixed the metallic glaze with black and white paint to make gray to give it a metal look.

I just love wood letters, I have T left for one of the boys and would like to get a letter for each, or make them when I get a scroll saw someday.
