A Small Closet Makeover On A Budget

our closet is finished, cleaned and organized

Before I made over the mod podge dresser I new it would go into the closet. Its not to big and has small drawers. Although my family thinks I'm crazy for keeping in the closet where no one can see it but I need it more then for looks.

On top of the dresser is a mirror I picked up from a thrift store, some art ( also art on the walls) and a tray my son painted for me and a vase filled with some items like scissors.

This is what the closet looked like in the process, you can read more here

I still haven't bought the wood hangers I wanted, only because I forced myself not to visit Ikea until after the holidays.
Everything done in here is on a budget, including my rug I paid $6.00 for from this local store called Ocean State Job Lot.

my stool , which makes a great seat t put on shoes and it helps me reach to the top of the shelving.

I bought these shoe bins to store my dressy shoes and clutches, I'm not much of a shoe girl. I like my chucks and my boots. I also only have about 4 handbags and a few clutches.

This middle section is for our shoes, okay mostly my shoes. Everything on the top left of my closet are my craft items. We lack storage space in our house so I made room for all that in here. I want to have all matching containers and place to store my pillow forms but I'll gradually buy those throughout the winter. On the right side I have three matching large bins filled with summer clothes, my guys stuff and some other stuff.

my guys side

Most of our clothes are folded and placed on the shelves

I only hang certain items

That's my new bathrobe hanging to the left. I have a few hooks on the wall for items like that.
If you look to the right you can see the open shelving, where all our folded clothes sit. I was trying to figure out a way...a cheap way to hide that. I talked my guy into putting up some kind of wall. You can see this straight from our bedroom and bathroom and its not attractive. Then I could hang some art or small shelves.

The paint used for the wall was opps paint from Behr at $5.00 for a gallon, the floor paint was opps exterior paint from BM at $10 for a gallon and the stencil paint was a sample size of Behr that cost .75 cents.

Most of the storage bins I had, the shoe bins are about a $1 each.
I spent about $10 on bins.

now
The light fixture which clearly I cant take a good photo of cost me $5.00 to redo. I painted the base to make it look like oil bronze. I bought the schoolhouse globe from Home Depot for $5.00 and replaced it with the old round one.

before

I donated lots of old clothes in the process. I'm very happy with our new closet, I use it everyday to get dressed in and love it.

Closet Update { almost done }

Why is there a towel on my floor? Well I had to bring in the old metal step stool and I was worried it would damage the floor so I put the towel down. I will say that there is less stuff today. I've accomplished a lot since I took this photo.

It did look like this not to long ago

I even started putting close on the shelves and a few items on the rack.

I want to all the same hangers like these

These are from Ikea and cost $4.99 for 8

I also still haven't found the perfect small soft rug, I kind of want something with a fun bold print, either black and white like a zebra rug or colorful.

I also had this idea but not sure how good it will look.

You see in the photo up top when you walk in the shelving for the clothes are right there and its not a pretty sight, even if the clothes are all neatly folded. I had an idea of putting up curtain wire around the shelving and adding curtains. This way you can go all around and cover the side that we see. What do you think?

I like these ones from Ikea, but I'd go with just white if I get a zebra or colorful rug.

I finally got my mod podge dresser in

I know my stenciled wall looks blurry, its really not.

I love these rooms with closets hidden by curtains, although its not the same thing I'd do but they look good anyway

Only is I could fit a ottoman like that in my closet..

Come back and join me for my link party tonight!

I will be sharing this at some great link parties, you can find out where here

Closet Update

I painted the second coat yesterday, now I just need to let it sit for several days before I walk on it.
The color is a bisque, its a $10.00 oops paint from BM and its exterior paint, this way it can handle wear and tear better. I was excited to find a nice color and so cheap. Of course I have more leftover and not sure what I'll do with it.

You can also see i left the clips in the wall that held the show rack, this way if I ever need to put it back.

I'm working on storage this week, hopefully have it clutter free as soon as the paints been cured.

I'm also working on preparing the mudroom walls, filling holes and cracks. I'm planning on painting the inside of the mudroom door this weekend as well.

I defiantly do way to many projects at the same time.

Closet Update { stenciling }

I'm defiantly going to have to work on getting better photos in my closet.

I decided to add some pop of fun by adding a stenciled boarder.
I used my stencil from Martha Stewart
A foam pouncer ( also from her paint collection )
and stencil spray, this is a must when using stencils on the walls.
The paint is a gray sample opps paint from Lowes in satin, it cost me .50 cents.

The one at the right

I just need to finish a corner then I'm done.

here is a sneak peak of the floor

I need to work on getting bins and storage solution to organize my stuff this week.

See more of my closet post here & here

make sure to check back I already have one coat of paint on my floor!

New Headboard From Ikea

I know I go to Ikea like every other week, this time my sister needed to get a desk and a few other things so I was going more for her even thought I suggested it.

I picked up a few things, some glasses for the kitchen, I break them a lot, a salad spinner, I'm always making salad so that was needed, I also got a really cute pillow and cover in the as is section for $5.

This was my best buy

The BADALEN headboard, I got this for $30.00! I know foam is expensive so this is cheaper then making my own, plus the fabric can easily be removed and I can add make a new cover, which I'm planning on do that because ti wont go with what I want for our room.

They only had 5 left so once there gone there gone.

Here it is up

My good pillowcases are in the wash.

I had to put it up right away even though it will get moved when we makeover or room, hopefully soon.

My laundry room is almost complete....working on the light fixture....the shade I bought to use and tried something different with ti...didn't work out so now I need to figure out something else.

Tissue Paper balls and a free dresser

I while back I found a this blog our everyday art and she posted a tutorial on how to make tissue paper balls and I thought that seems fun and easy, all you need is tissue paper ( in any color of your choice) stapler, ribbon and scissors.

They really do make a cute decoration for everyday cuteness or a party.
I used white tissue paper, silver ribbon from lefter over on Christmas, and tacks to hang it. They are so adorable.

I also found this blog two little bells who made tissue paper carnation pom monograms...very cute

I've been working on paper fan decorations that I saw on this blog My girlish whims paper fan banner tutorial....I just had to do it when I saw hers....check out her blog shes a very stylish blogger.

I also want to share my new free dresser my favorite guy picked up for me

My phone doesn't take the best quality photo but isn't this just a beautiful dresser? My favorite part is the hardware, and they are all there. There is a few scratches and the top needs to be redone. Can you believe they were going to throw this in the trash? I now have 5 dressers in the workshop, I have one in mind for our bedroom. What shall I do with this one?

Well I seriously need to get in gear and work on that slipcover I've procrastinated enough.....have a excellent day!

Master Bedroom updates

I'm really getting excited on doing our master bedroom but we had a big set back....well its not that big but when is it going to get fixed? When ever my man has time to do it I guess, its not something I'd tackle.

This is what happens when a ice dam builds up

It first started with my curtain rod falling out a week before the leak came........so until this gets fixed I can't do much around our room.

I did start a design board for fun a week ago on Google's Picasa 3

This is just a idea, the furniture are ideas towards what I'm looking for.
1. a bead board bed, which we are only having a headboard
2. light blue lamps, but also like glass lamps
3. we might make our own nightstands, I'd like 3 drawers, or 1 with doors
4. love the yellow zigzag for a rug
5. a nice white slip covered chair
6. gray paint for the walls
7. a hint of light blue for curtains
8. white dresser with black hardware
9. now for desk options, I'd love to build a sawhorse desk, or paint the one I own a blue shade
10. this is our quilt, by dwell studio for Target
11. I already own a chair like this with a slipcover in the same color
12. the other option desk.

So the colors for the room that I want are light blue, gray and a hint of yellow

What do you think of my design board? Have any suggestions? I can't wait till I can start painting.....once the roof is fixed.

We got a new bed! Well mattress anyway

I almost forgot to mention, yesterday my man and I went out and bought a new mattress, we needed it so much. Our old one was so old and I had back pain almost every morning.

After we bought it we had to pick it up at the sleepy's warehouse and brought it home
I was able to put the new bed skirt on that I picked up from Target a while back. I paid $13.00 for it and its from their feildcrest luxury collection.

I didn't get a chance to iron it, so I'm going to steam it when I get the time to do it.

All of the bedding is new, I bought most of it a while ago from target when they were getting rid of bedding collections. The quit is my favorite and its the reason I want blue hues in the room, its from Dwell studio and I paid $45.00 for it, I think it was 70.00 originally. I'm in the process of cleaning out the room so we can get started on painting but I've been wanting to show my new bedding.
The duvet cover is from Simply Shabby Chic and I picked that up from about $30.00 and it was $89.99, its just a plain blue linen.
The euro shams are also from feildcrest and they were $8.00 a piece.
The white pillow is also from Target and I paid $4.98 for it, the one behind I made from napkins I picked up for $2.00 from Target and I just added two together and sewed and added a zipper. I have one more to make.

I love this trunk, its from Pottery Barn and I picked it up at a yardsale a few summers ago for $15, I'm not sure if I want it in front of the bed.
The pillow on top is made of felt I believe and bought that at HomeGoods for $5
Zoey loves it!

We also already have the material to make a headboard, its wide bead board so hopefully that will happen before the room is complete.

I cant wait to make this a more calming and peaceful bedroom

A peek of the slipcover..some plates and paint

I've been working hard on the slipcover, I just need to make the back cushion cover and then iron the slipcover and I'm done. I have to say it was hard, I messed up a lot and had to redo a lot and that became stressful. The drop cloth material is nice but not easy to sew although I only broke two needles which inst so bad.

Here it is

I did the piping in a greenish blue, and If I do a big slipcover again I'm going to skip the piping.

Here are the plates i picked up for cheap at a thrift store I told you about a few days ago

They all have light blue and silver accents

I spent about $8.00 and got two large silver round trays and I think they would be great for wall art and I'm pretty sure they will be use in our master bedroom.

Also I put up some paint samples and they came out all to dark, so I searched and searched and found two colors I'd like to try pale sage and silver sage from Restoration Hardware.

silver sage

and pale sage

I have to get samples first and see how it looks in our bedroom. We dont get much light so it needs to be light. I feel like I'm struggling so much with finding the right color, I want a pale blue tone, light and even gray or green tones. While searching online for colors I found these photos I like

I saw this on myperfectcolor.com and I could not find it on BM's website but I love it, its called Antique glassware

this just looks so relaxing
I love this even thought I'm not a gold accent person

I cant wait to get started on our master bedroom, I have a lot to do first and I told myself to finish slipcover and other things then I can get started on our bedroom. Does anyone know of a great pale blue color they love?
