Fresh Coat of Paint

 Freshly painted door
I know it doesn't look that fantastic in the photo but its because I still have so much more work to be done, as you can see on the right side and the room just needs a new fresh coat of paint

I gave the door a thick coat of Benjamin Moore Stix primer, its the same primer I used on my chalkboard fridge. Its a expensive but worth it

Here is some more information via from the web
"STIX Waterborne Bonding Primer is a premium quality, acrylic / urethane primer-sealer designed with a unique "Step Change Technology" that delivers unparalleled adhesion to the most challenging surfaces, such as........
PVC,  Vinyl, Plastic,  Glass,  Tile,  Glazed Block,  Glossy Paints,       Pre-Coated Siding, Fiberglass, and Galvanized Metals.
STIX is also ideal for use on plaster, drywall, wood, and non-ferrous metals, where a low ambient or surface temperatures present a problem for conventional primers.
It cures in temperatures as low as 35 F and offers an extremely hard film when cured."

The door was never painted when installed, it was the original factory applied primer on it, it was rusting and really dirty and now with the new fresh coat of Decorator's White paint it looks brand new!

Its in semi gloss so its nice and shiny reflects light and easy to clean which is a must around here.

I still have another coat of paint to apply around the trim and I'm sanding and cleaning the bench to be primed tomorrow

You cant see how dirty it is but when I first painted it years ago I used a flat based paint, not a good idea.

I also change the paint color for the mudroom, my two choices were a light green or a yellow, and I was steering towards yellow but when I went to my local hardware store and saw they had a gallon of Benjamin Moore " Nantucket Breeze" in eggshell that someone decided not to buy I decided to buy it.

The color was dried up on the side of the can so I was able to get a good look on how it looked dried and its very pretty....I couldn't resit the $10 price tag also...I love my local hardware store.

Here are two photos I found on Google.com that have this color on the walls

Whats your favorite place to get paint?

1.2.3

I gave my new shoe dresser a little pop by adding these numbers.

My guy gave these basic plastic house number to me when he cleaned out his old work truck to get his new one.
I picked up this dresser from Ikea to hold shoes for the kids but I'm not a big fan of plain drawer fronts so I wanted to add the numbers to make it more interesting.

I painted the 1 and 3 with a satin light blue paint and the 2 is in a gray. I slightly distressed them on the edges.

To attach them I just screwed them into the drawer fronts with small screws.

Its nice not to have clutter of shoes anymore!

A Perfect Place To Hold Shoes

I made a trip to Ikea on Saturday with the purpose of only buying one thing, a small dresser. Normally I would not pay much for something not the greatest made but I could not find what I needed anywhere else.

I've been focusing a lot on my mudroom, getting it organized and clean. I'm awaiting for my paint to arrive from dutch boy so it needs to be prepared.

I couldn't take seeing the kids shoes everywhere and the clutter so I needed to come up with something to hold there shoes. Our other Ikea shoe cabinet holds our shoes.

So this was the start to the organizing of the closet/pantry. I also use the shelves to hold food and extra cleaning items.

This is what the top looks like, I do not have a photo of the messy shoe area.

Here it is now

I picked up the Malm dresser, it was $69.99

And very heavy....I loaded it into the car myself but when I got home I opened the box in the car and brought the bigger pieces inside. It took me less then an hour to put it together.
The drawers are wide and lock in so the kids can't pull them out. Cleaning them will be easy with the vacuum.
I had enough space on the side to store rain boots. It really does a great job, now the space is clean and clutter free. Next I'm painting the shelves white. Getting rid of items on the top shelf, add fabric to the curtains to make them longer.

I did happen to hit the "as is" section because its a must do, and picked up this lamp for $4.00

I bought some cute canisters to hold office supplies and 2 tumblers that are really cute but they didn't have photos on Ikea.com

Office/ mudroom & a updated bulletin board

We have a average size home, spacious and open but only 2 bedrooms for the boys to share, someday I could imagine having the basement finished and there rooms downstairs and a office for me upstairs but for now my office is combine with the mudroom.

I've posted before on my office/mudroom and you can see that here

I also have a large cork board for papers and my paint swatches and I decided to revamp it with leftover burlap and some decorated furniture tacks.

I ran out of the tacks so I just did the two sides.

This is what the board looked like before

Here are the tacks I made out of clay for my new updated board
I will write a post on how I remade it later.

If you read my previous post on my office/mudroom its clean and tidy well now its a mess

Messy and cluttered, now that school is about 4 weeks away I need to get this place into gear. I also need to make more room for my papers and etc...for my business and my bills.

I also want to build a wall cabinet that has a pull down desk top that I can write out my bills and what not on and folds it up when not in use, I though about this idea one day and thought it would be perfect since theirs not much space.

I also have some small much needed improvements in this room but I need to stop adding more to my list until the kids are back in school.

My mudroom and new curtains for pantry area

A few weeks ago I went to target looking for a shower tension rod, and was lucky to find one on clearance for $2.58 and that's why I love that place.  I have this pantry/storage area in our mudroom/garage entry way and we could put doors but that would cost money so I thought curtains for a while but wasn't sure until I saw tons of shower curtains on sale at Target. I picked up these pretty bright shower curtains for $3.50 each. I got the shower curtain rings for $1.50

I love the colors and how they pop, its dark in our mudroom so we need bright and fun
this is the tension rod and rings, the rings are copper and I like them so now I need to figure out how to make the tension rod copper....do they make paint that looks like copper?
I think I will need to make new curtains for the window
Here is view of the new shoe rack from Ikea and the curtains, we have more space now and no sneakers out for the puppy! The boots however are in the pantry/storage area that's why I kept the curtain from being to close the bottom. I might add some fabric to the ends someday
here is the other side, my hubby brought home the cabinets from a job and we put the hooks under for the coats and backpacks. We also had leftover hardwood flooring and beadboard , so we placed the hardwood flooring for the seat on the bench and I bought those seat cushions for something else and had them laying around. I'm planning on making a custom cushion to fit the bench more. The mudroom needs a lot of repair work, theirs a lot of cracks and it needs a paint job. Always a new project

In the cabinets I store extra paper towels and office stuff. I bought the storage cubes at target and the magazine holders have the kids important papers and the puppy vet stuff. The folders hold pictures, I bought those at Ikea.

I bought the light and stool from Ikea and I'm going to use a pretty light green stain I bought in the opps paint section at home depot for a $1.00. The light is great for when were on the computer and don't want all the mudroom lights on.

This is the built in my hubby made a few years ago, its next to bench, it was the only place in the house that we could fit the computer. But its perfect and he did a great job! I'd like to make a spot under neath to hold the computer so its not just sitting on the floor.

This is one of my favorite finds.....and I found it in our back woods. I painted it with leftover red paint from the kitchen stools.
I love free stuff
