Another Slipcover......

Yes I finished it! This one was easy compared to the over-sized chair I did here....the fabric was not drop cloth so that helped, so I used the same fabric I used on the ottoman here which I love because its machine washable, soft and cheap.

Here is the chair

I'm not to sure if many folks out there would slipcover a wood chair with caning, but I don't want to paint it and I thought if I slipcover this chair it might look like a upholstered chair. This was also given to us my my other half's grandmother so I felt like I should leave it the way it is.

I bought 5 yards of material and layered it over the chair to figure out how I'd cover it since its rounded in the back.

What I did was cut out the fabric for the seat and pinned that to the fabric for front and back for one piece. After I sewed those together I turned the chair around and pulled the middle tight and pinned, and then did the same for back right and left side so it made three lines. I hope this makes sense.

See how I have three lines (seams)? This helped make the fabric tight. You can also see its a little uneven and a thread is hanging, I haven't cut all those yet.

I did the pleating correct this time and the cushion cover came out great without problems, even the zipper is perfect. I think I'm getting better at slipcovers the more I make them.

here is the front

Its a raining day out here so the pictures are dark today.
I made the slipcover short to show off those beautiful legs

Side shot

and here are my....I took the time to set these up for a photo shoot pictures

Lots of tucking for the arms

This chair sits next to our temporary book shelf for a reading spot
All I need is a smaller pillow with a neat design to add to the chair.
Now I can love this chair even more.......maybe I can start thinking about slip covering my chaise lounge? Then working up to the sectional?

The dropcloth slipcover is done

I wanted a pleated look for the corners but I messed up the measurements and couldn't do it

It makes the living room look so much lighter

here is what it looked like without the slipcover, It actually doesn't look bad in this photo but it person the fabric is outdated, the chair is in great shape and that's why we picked it up a few years ago for $20 at a yard sale.

What do you think of it?

A peek of the slipcover..some plates and paint

I've been working hard on the slipcover, I just need to make the back cushion cover and then iron the slipcover and I'm done. I have to say it was hard, I messed up a lot and had to redo a lot and that became stressful. The drop cloth material is nice but not easy to sew although I only broke two needles which inst so bad.

Here it is

I did the piping in a greenish blue, and If I do a big slipcover again I'm going to skip the piping.

Here are the plates i picked up for cheap at a thrift store I told you about a few days ago

They all have light blue and silver accents

I spent about $8.00 and got two large silver round trays and I think they would be great for wall art and I'm pretty sure they will be use in our master bedroom.

Also I put up some paint samples and they came out all to dark, so I searched and searched and found two colors I'd like to try pale sage and silver sage from Restoration Hardware.

silver sage

and pale sage

I have to get samples first and see how it looks in our bedroom. We dont get much light so it needs to be light. I feel like I'm struggling so much with finding the right color, I want a pale blue tone, light and even gray or green tones. While searching online for colors I found these photos I like

I saw this on myperfectcolor.com and I could not find it on BM's website but I love it, its called Antique glassware

this just looks so relaxing
I love this even thought I'm not a gold accent person

I cant wait to get started on our master bedroom, I have a lot to do first and I told myself to finish slipcover and other things then I can get started on our bedroom. Does anyone know of a great pale blue color they love?

Ottoman slipcover

This is my second slipcover I've made and I think I've enjoyed this one because it was easy, except I wanted to do pleats and did them wrong, and messed up a few times on keeping it straight. 0verall i like how it turned out. I went to a Walmart over in RI, I'm about 20 min away from the line where i live and they still have fabric in that one and found a white and off white cotton fabric that's thick and machine washable. I can't remember the name but it was near the duck fabric. It was very easy to work with and I'd use it again. I have this small ottoman I keep under the secretary desk and its in a brown fabric and I dont like the brown and I could have reupholster it because it came apart easy but I wanted to do a slipcover instead.

here is what it looks like the fabric anyways

and now
I wanted to show the leggs off a little, also this fabric is soft. I wish they made it wider I'd use it for my sofa.

I did piping around the top and I made it myself with the fabric and rope I bought from Home Depot. I didn't iron the fabric, I get lazy sometimes.
