Letter Wall Art

I picked up this letter F at Joann's Store for .99 cents and painted stripes to make it stand out.

I added a sawtooth hanger to the back of the letter to be able to hang it up

These letters were already white so this was a quick project. I even painted the sides and top and bottom to match the stripe.

F = Family

I'm feeling much better today, I even finished priming all the furniture and went to my local hardware store to pick up the BM paint. I'm going to start painting today.

Gallery Wall Update

I swapped out some pictures on my gallery wall in our hallway to make room for two new ones

now

Before I painted the birds and branches
In May 2011 I shared my birds and branches painting. I basically painted over these  flower paintings that were just some cheap wall art from the Christmas Tree Shop.

after

I changed out two pictures for some new ones that were given to me, they are actually copies of two silk water-colorings I believe that were a gift to my late grandmother and I loved them, but my uncle wanted them  so he made me copies of the originals and framed them for me...wasn't that nice?

I also moved my plates to fill in some space.
Now only if we could make the doorbell thing not look so odd.

Monday monday #2

I had a wonderful busy weekend, I had a great first link party....thanks to all of you who linked up your creations, and for all my new following friends.
Pallet Table:
I know I promised my finished pallet sofa table that I showed you on Friday here, but its been a rainy day and no sunlight and I really need that to get great photos. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the shots. I will however give you a sneak peak.

I went with a Minwax Water base Stain is Slate
I'm also using Minwax polycrylic protective finish which I'm adding another coat tonight.
I've never used these products, I've only used the oil based stain and protective finishes. I did love that its super easy to clean of the brushes, with the oil base stuff you have to clean it in paint thinner and that can be a pain. I've been told that the water base isn't as durable as oil.

More on my Pallet Sofa table tomorrow...I will try
Pallet Crate:
Here is another project I started....I know I should finished one before I start a new one but that's just not me.

Its going to be a rustic crate on wheels for storage under the new table, and its made out of pallets.
I made sure I took photos on how I built this, I need to sand, add some detail and put the wheels on tomorrow. So another post of this later.

New Art:
Cute New art for my Kitchen....printed onto 8 by 10 photo paper, picture found online

I did buy anything this weekend...oh wait except for the stain but other then that nothing. I sure am having fun building things out of pallets, I can't wait to get more and better gloves because it is not easy pulling them apart.

I'm starting that next Monday!

Paper Fan Banner turn to art

I love making things out of paper, its cheap and easy to work with. I also enjoy looking at all the fabulous prints and designs they have out. Most of the scrapbook paper I got recently for 7 pieces for a $1, clearance at Michaels Arts and Crafts. I do also have to much sitting around but I'm a collector.....or I just buy too much.
About a month ago I found this great tutorial on paper fan banner at My Girlish Whim's blog you can fin the post on the paper fan banner here. I absolutely fell in love when I saw them and had to start making them right away! I did but because I had a million other things to do it took me a while to finish. I ended up making them hang like a banner but now like to call them artwork on my wall above the fireplace. I was planning on making the banner for the parties but there too much fun to take down.

So make sure you check out her blog to find out on how to make them.

Here are mine

I even made tiny ones to cover the tacks holding the ribbon up.

I can picture making these and applying sticks and having them in hang in vases. I might just go and do that.

Birds and branches painting

Okay so for a while now I had these two paintings I picked up for cheap and they were only from the Christmas tree shop and for some reason I liked them? I'm not sure but once they were up I didn't like them at all. The frame was a gold color and I sanded them, primed and painted with the antique white paint i had and then sanded them in some areas and applied antique glaze. I thought I'd like them better but it was the paintings and the colors it just wasn't my style. I thought about painting some birds and a design and I had already printed out birds on cardstock to make stencil on a wooden bin. So one day I was checking out blogs and came across Corner house's family portrait and loved it and so I finally got started on mine.

The finished look
A coat of primer, already had the blue (aqua smoke) paint sample from Home Depot and craft paints.

I didn't even take the paintings off the wall, It was so much easier leaving them up. I used a pencil and drew out by freehand for the branches. Then I painted the branches with two different small size brushes. I thought of using a gray color for the branches and then decided I didn't like it so I went over it with brown craft paint. I used the white for the birds. Its hard to take a photo with the flash because it makes it harder to see the birds but I like how it came out, I was thinking about doing more branches but I think I'll keep it the way it is.
I printed two bird stencils I found on Google image's search and cut it out and drew around it on the painting and the bird on the bottom I drew my self.

I didn't even sand the painting down first, I like the texture it had from the original painting.

It only took me a few hours to do and it was fun and I love the outcome......would you do this? Paint over a old painting to make it something new?

d.i.y Bird wall art

After Christmas I went to target and found these cute little birds.
Its a off white color I also got a tan one, and they were about .29 cents each.
I had these frames in the basement (along with a bunch of more stuff) and primed and painted them antique white.
They were perfect for what I wanted.
I wanted a design and found this, i printed it onto cardstock and cut the shape out and traced it on the frame, I used a dark brown deco art paint.
This is what you need to hold the bird (or whatever you want to hang) in the frame, I wanted you to see the size and I got so anxious I cut the top off without thinking. They are tiny.
You need one of these, thanks to my hubby he got it for me for Christmas. Now I dont need to steal his!
Next, you match up the drill bit to the hook and eye
I use the leveler to make sure i was placing it in the middle.
Then drill the hole and screw in the hook and eye
I used a thin gray ribbon I had around the house and not sure if I want to use fishing line instead. I placed a piece of light blue cardstock in the back, but you dont have to use any. I'm planning on hanging this on a wall somewhere in the house but for now its sitting on a shelf. If we build our built ins in the living room soon I might just place in on there.
I would like to do this again but with something different, maybe not as wide as these birds are but I like how it came out, and you can easily make this.
What would you use?
